Beltronics to Release new Spectre RDD Immune Radar Detector!
Guys of LIDAR has learned that Beltronics will be releasing a new radar detector soon. It appears that the new Beltronics STI will be immune to all current and future RDDs:

"New TotalShield TM RF Technology provides zero leakage for the ultimate in undetectability."

As the first production unit to be immune to the Spectre, it will of course be of particular interest to those who are effected by detector bans.

It is unknown when this unit will hit the streets in the US, rumor has it that it will be available in early 2006. However, it appears that it will be available by mid-December from some overseas vendors.

The new unit will feature a magnesium case, and will reportedly come complete with "quick release windshield mount with suction cups, coiled SmartPlug lighter adapter, amplified 12-volt speaker, direct wire SmartPlug, and a durable hard-shell metal travel case".

With the STI, it appears that Beltronics finally abandoned their long-standing use of buttons on the top surface of the unit, making the unit much more friendly for high-mounting, which is just the way a lot of the enthusiasts like it. But unfortunately, with all of the accessories the STI comes with, Beltronics still maintains their policy of not including visor clip with their detectors, possibly to discourage degrading laser detection by mounting high behind the tint strip. Even with all of the accessories the STI comes with, users who want a visor clip will have to order one separately.

Will we see an Escort clone in the future? Now a bigger question: What else does this unit bring to the table, besides Spectre immunity? The new design utilizes LNAs in the front end: will this offer increased performance over current top offerings from BEL/Escort? Will their "Next Generation of Laser Protection" utilizing multiple sensors be more competitive? One thing is certain: the Guys of LIDAR will be testing an STI at the soonest opportunity.

Retail price is rumored to be $449.95 USD.
